Project Self-Sufficiency

At LIFT we are all about empowering people to be able to live extraordinary lives. Project Self Sufficiency is a community-based program, located in Newport Beach, that assists low income, single parents to achieve economic independence through education, training and direct social services, such as intensive case management. This is a powerful initiative for these parents, as it will change the pathway for their family, many times, breaking the cycle of abuse and building their self-esteem, which ultimately leads to a better future for generations. Many times these parents have a new sense of self and become the leaders and the workforce in their community. Applicants must undergo a comprehensive assessment to determine eligibility. In order to qualify for the program a person must be:

  • A single parent with at least one minor child
  • Actively enrolled in school or occupational skills training
  • Have a source of income
  • Be highly motivated to work toward achieving a career that will support their family
  • Live, work or attend school in the City of Huntington Beach or be referred to the program from a shelter in Orange County

Once accepted into the program, each family will work one-on-one with a social worker and receive intensive case management and direct services. Personal goals are identified along with access to many resources to help achieve each goal, including a team of professionals who will support educational goals that will lead to a more independent future for each student and their family. The foundation provides the funds to support the program in the following areas:

The LIFT Foundation has several programs in partnership with PSS. We help support them around the holidays to make sure every kid (100+) has presents at Christmas and every family has food on their table. In 2019, we launched a Stairway to Success program to help prepare these single parents for what happens after they obtain their 4 year college degree.
