That’s why we are proud to partner with Project Self-Sufficiency (PSS)—a community-based program in Newport Beach that provides single parents with the education, training, and resources they need to achieve economic independence.

PSS is more than just financial assistance – it’s about breaking the cycle of poverty and abuse, instilling confidence and leadership, and transforming generations. By offering intensive case management and direct social services, PSS equips single parents with the tools to graduate, enter the workforce, and build a stable future for their families. Many of these individuals go on to become leaders in their communities, proving that with the right support, self-sufficiency is possible for anyone willing to work for it.

Who Qualifies for Project Self-Sufficiency?

To participate, individuals must:
✔ Be a single parent with at least one minor child
✔ Be actively enrolled in school or occupational training
✔ Have a source of income
✔ Be highly motivated to pursue a career that will support their family
✔ Live, work, or attend school in Orange County, or be referred through an Orange County shelter

Once accepted, each family is paired with a dedicated social worker to provide intensive support and help set personalized educational and career goals. PSS provides access to life-changing resources, including:

• Job Training & Transportation Support
• Housing Assistance & Childcare
• Healthcare, Counseling & Emotional Support
• Food Pantry & Baby Supplies
• Home Furnishings & Clothing Referrals

“Stairway to Success” – Training Students for the Workforce

In 2019, we launched the “Stairway to Success” program, designed to prepare PSS participants for life after graduation. Earning a college degree is just the beginning – we help students navigate the professional world by teaching them how to network, connect with industry leaders, and secure jobs that match their new skill sets. Our goal is to ensure that each participant steps confidently into a career that provides long-term stability for their family.

Holiday Drives: Bringing Joy & Stability

The holiday season can be especially difficult for families in transition, which is why LIFT steps in to make sure no child is left behind. Every year, we provide:
🎁 Christmas presents for every child (100+ kids) connected to the program
🥘 Food & essentials to ensure every family has a holiday meal
🚲 Bikes for every child, so they have a sense of freedom, adventure, and mobility
